This replica follow an original from pompeii 79 A.D The Thraex was a ype of Roman gladiator, armed in the Thracian style small rectangular or squre shield called a parmula and a very short swird with a slightly curved blade called a sca, intended to aim an apponent's unarmoured back. Thraex and the hoplomachus, with his Greek equipment, were usually pitted against the murmillo, armed like a legionary, mimicking the apposition between Roman soldiers and their various enemies.
